This three part Bible study with an optional retreat planning guide was written by Miriam Neumann. This Bible study looks at Esther’s story, Joseph’s story, and then offers the opportunity to reflect our own personal stories and consider how events in our lives have prepared us for the plan and purpose God has for our lives. His plans and purposes surface at exactly the right time.Įsther and Joseph were just two of many Biblical characters who had things happen in their earlier lives that prepared them for the special purpose God had planned for them. God has a plan for each of us, which eventually unfolds in His time and manner. This is typical of most of our lives as well. They both had ups and downs in their lives. Joseph went from a slave to being second only to the King in all the land of Egypt. It is the prayer of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and the International Student Ministry that those who read this book will see how easy and rewarding it is to befriend international students and become a missionary - no passport needed.Įsther went from an orphan to a queen. ISM volunteers, including many LWML members, have been privileged to bring the message of hope and life through faith in Jesus Christ to countless international students. Karol and her husband the late Carl Selle began ISM (a recognized service organization of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod) in 1996. The Bible studies were written by Karol Selle. The stories in this book were written by individuals serving with International Student Ministry (ISM) at various universities around the nation. By befriending these students, we, as Christians, can not only become their friends but also find that God opens doors for us to tell of His great love for them. They are excited about their new adventure, but also have much apprehension. Thousands of young people come to the United States each semester with the dream of studying at an American college or university.
